There are certain songs that don’t give a singer anywhere to hide.
“Alone”, as performed by Heart, is definitely one of them.
It starts with space. It builds. And then when that chorus arrives, everything opens up and the vocal has to soar above a huge rock arrangement.
That’s exactly what made it feel like a natural choice for the Royal Beats Audition Room.
Why Alone?
The idea behind the Audition Room is simple: create professional backing tracks for songs that give singers an opportunity to really show what they can do.
Not every great song makes a great audition song.
Alone does.
It has dynamics, range, emotion and one of those choruses that can completely change the atmosphere in a room when the right vocalist gets hold of it.
But that also meant the backing track needed to deliver.
A song this big simply wouldn’t feel right with a thin arrangement behind it.
Building It From Scratch
As with every Royal Beats production, we started again from the ground up.
No audio from the original recording. No existing karaoke track underneath it.
Every part was recreated and produced specifically for our version, with the aim of capturing the scale and energy that makes the song so exciting to perform.
The challenge was getting the balance right.
The arrangement needs to feel enormous when the chorus arrives, but it also needs enough space for the performer to remain the most important part of it.
After all, this isn't supposed to be the star of the audition.
You are.
The track is there to make sure that when you decide to let rip on that chorus, there's something equally powerful standing behind you.
Adding the Backing Vocals
We also wanted to offer Alone with professionally recorded backing vocals.
These were recorded specifically for the Royal Beats production and mixed into the arrangement to add another layer of size and energy when the song opens up.
Customers choosing the Backing Vocal Version (£25) also receive the Instrumental Version, so you've got both options available depending on the performance.
For singers who would rather perform completely solo, the standard Instrumental Version is £20.
Welcome Back to the Audition Room
Alone becomes the second release in the Royal Beats Audition Room, following our first release, Skyfall as performed by Adele.
And we're only getting started.
The aim is to gradually build the Audition Room into a collection of songs chosen specifically because they give vocalists a chance to make an impression - from huge power ballads to emotional contemporary performances.
